There are 29 imported and self-made pipe and can production lines in China, and the utilization rate is only about 20%. The winding forming process only accounts for 3.5% of other molding processes. It is necessary to further develop the market and give full play to the production capacity of existing equipment.

Large-diameter pipe fittings are mostly formed by hand lay-up and spray method, which are not matched and have poor quality. Many FRP factories lack technicians, low staff culture and poor professional quality. They have formed a product without design, no material selection, no means of testing, no inspection of products; when making FRP pipes, raw materials are often shoddy. Cut corners, due to quality caused by some pipeline leakage accidents and economic losses, so that users have a great psychological barrier to FRP products, affecting the credibility and promotion of glass steel pipe.

There are still no technical standards and technical specifications for the raw materials, design, production, testing, installation and construction of FRP pipes in China, which makes the use of large-diameter glass pipes lack design basis.
